How to choose SPF ingredient?

Depending on what you are making, you need to consider your final product's:

  • type - powder or liquid
  • SPF power - how much absorbance rate do you want?
  • coverage - higher coverage means your consumers can wear for a longer time
  • UV filter type - just UVA or just UVB or both?
  • avoid Nano version
  • avoid adding Triclosan into your formula
  • if film former is necessary, choose alternatives such as Coco Caprylate Caprate
  • avoid using Parabens as preservatives

Reef-safe SPF Ingredients

The ingredients above are reef-safe and do not cause any harm. If you opt for the nano version of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, not only they are not accepted in the Organic concept but also cause harm to the ocean!

For more information on reef-safe ingredients, you can refer to the HEL List provided by Haereticus Environmental Laboratory (HEL) here.
